More servers and / or services?

ClickFanatic wrote:

Are there any plans to expand L2P in the (near) future? For example new/better servers, but perhaps also some services that are not directly related to hosting. :)

That is hard to say. I would say Aesir and Asgard are great servers without much need for upgrades so newer servers (while not out of the question) isn't high on my todo list. Other services that aren't hosting related most likely wouldn't even be near my todo list but, you never know. Smile

More services like Pixya?

LP-burdman wrote:

A follow-up to this question (if you choose to answer it). We've seen LLP ventures in the past that were slightly out of the box, most notably Pixya. Are there any plans for similar "out of the box" ideas?

Pixya.com and Lifelesspeople.net Image Hosting were an interesting pushes into free image hosting but, they just didn't fit the LLP way of doing things well. Image and file hosting has very little room for quality vs. quantity so similar projects aren't something we'll likely touch again.

The current "out of the box" idea is to turn Celestial.nu into a blogging website host or blogging website of some kind.

Any plans for better support?

Logan wrote:

I've looked at many hosts and I have to say, I love LLP. But one thing I think a lot of us don't like is the long time to answer support requests. Is there going to be any upgrade to this service in the future?

Very good question.

Support is by far the most costly (in terms of time) part of webhosting. While the community here is very good about not needing support for many things while some tend to be rather common.

Support at LLP is currently prioritized not by the ticket priority in the helpdesk (most webhosting providers ignore it) but, by the following in descending order of importance:

1) Critical server emergency tickets 2) Website hacked or security breach tickets. 3) Email problems relating to spam or flooding bounces. 4) Domain problems related to abuse or DNS. ... 51) Problems relating to minor TOS violations that result in websites being suspended. ... 99) Restoring accounts that haven't met PBPP quotas.

What's Trel's name?

TheJinX0r wrote:

It's great to be able to call you by a real name. But is Trel your real name? Would it be possible for you to post a picture of yourself? It would end the mysterious face running such a great service. Also, you have said you wanted to expand the Lifelesspeople service. What is your next project in mind? What new feature do you plan to add to LLP's feature list?

The name is Zach. ;)

Trel is a very common screen name that I have gone by for several years. If you relate Trel to many in the webhosting industry they will know exactly who you are talking about. :)

To see me or meet me you'll have to attend the HostingCon. ;)

Expanding LLP.. that is hard to say. Where would LLP expand into? :) I'm always looking at new areas but, its hard to focus exactly where.

I would say the next upgrade will come in the way of reviewing PBPP pricing and account plans. The current plan structure has remained the same for about over 6 months and it needs to be looked at to see if it is still competitive with other providers.

Paid hosting? Veteran plans?

SoulJah wrote:

Will Lifelesspeople offer paid hosting sometime, for those that have less and less time to post for hosting, but yet keeping this feature for the members who want it? Will Lifelesspeople offer any incentive plans for members who've been here for a long time?

Paid hosting.. this is a topic that just won't die. :) Every so often a major discussion goes on to see if the future of LLP will include paid hosting. For the moment I say no. Lifelesspeople.com's primary focus is free webhosting and will remain that way indefinitely.

One option you can consider is donating to Lifelesspeople.com. See (here for more details on that.)

As for incentive plans... I've thought this over several times and I could never make a decision I was happy with. As a free webhosting service the service is already a good incentive in itself but, at the same time the veteran community members help in ways that others don't or can't.

For now all I will say is that the topic is open for discussion.

Editor's Note: The L2Perfect plan has been implemented since this interview. L2Perfect is a plan for senior members of the community that provides low amounts of webspace for a price lower than L2Play, the cheapest plan.

What does Trel do in his free time? Knowledge Base reorganization?

Zenchi wrote:

What do you (Trel) do when you are not working on Lifelesspeople?

Are there any plans to reorganize the Knowledge Base, or perhaps update the information?

I could say I never stop working on projects related in some way to LPNL. :)

The Knowledge Base as it stands is fairly well setup. There are no current plans to alter it in any major way but, that could change. Updating the information is an ongoing project that the Content Development Team does on the Wiki while I work on the Knowledge Base.

Does Trel offer paid webhosting under another name?

TheJinX0r wrote:

In total honesty, Do you offer paid webhosting? You said Trel was only your fake name that many people would be able to recognize and even associate to Lifelesspeople. But does Zach offer paid webhosting under another pseudonym?

Short answer, No.

Long answer, No. ;)

How many other free hosting projects does Trel work on?

Neil wrote:

How many other free web hosting projects are you assisting in?

LPNL is invested in, partner to, or involved in a number of projects at any one time. At the moment the number ranges from 5 - 10.

Does Trel have a beard?

memoryproblems wrote:

its just me, but i've always imagined that you had a beard, or at the very least very long sideburns. do you?

Lets just say I'll blend in with people that have no style like Canadians.

Letting users close their own topics?

JSchwage wrote:

Will you ever give users the ability to close their own topics? :D

The best thing I could say would be maybe.

The implementation would be best served in the Bargain Boutique forum. I don't see where it is of much use (except for abuse) elsewhere.

What are the Breakfast Projects?

commonsense wrote:

will we ever know what the break fast projects are

Each project is more or less explained when it is announced. Many of these projects are long term projects which will be completed eventually.

What will be implemented with phpBB3?

packagedeliverer wrote:

What's the current list of to-be-implemented features for the release of phpBB 3? Will Xore be again participating in the implementing process (which is a positive thing of course Wink , just curious) ? I know of the sub-fora matter. Will there be a section in the dump with several language fora? How will this be kept in a clear structure as no doubt there will be loads of suggestions? How's the coffee in the private mod and admin fora?

There isn't a firm list of features that will be implemented. When phpBB3 I wouldn't expect to see LLP upgrade for at least a few months after the first stable is released.

Xore will participate as much as he likes. He knows he is awesome.. even though he is Canadian. ;)

Even after phpBB is released the forum will remain English only. It is true that in The Dump that some posts in other languages aren't removed but, you will never see an entire discussion in another language here.

Quite good actually.. :)

What does Trel have against Canadians?

Canadians never had the chance to come up with Abercrombie. Americans had them all beat on that count.

More server-side languages and extensions?

Vyx wrote:

Love the work you're doing Trel. Anywho, on to the question: Will L2P be extending it's already impressive support of various server side languages, extensions, and bundles (ie: PHP, Ruby, Pearl, the aspell Apache extension, etc.)? If so, what specifically are you planning to add on to L2P impressive repertoire?

First thank you. Its always welcome to hear good things as well as bad. :)

Yes I'm always looking to expand support for languages and features. It is the number one ongoing upgrade to LLP.

Getting specific is hard to say. I will add any feature I can install safely without a security problem. :)

New plans?

watsonalgas wrote:

You mentioned in a Hosting announcement that the plans may be updated soon. Could you please offer a little more information on this and about where it's heading? For example, will a smaller plan be implemented for people who maybe only need 25 megabytes or so, and are not able to post that much? Many people just host blogs I guess, but there was also a mention about blog hosting, is this also still a possibility? Thank you for your forward answers.

I reviewed the current plans and I believe they still strike a good balance. There is more to LLP than just quota numbers and I believe the pricing reflects that.

As for a smaller plan.. under the current setup there will not be a smaller plan. I am thinking of a few new ideas but, the signup will not be the same as it is now.

As for blog hosting.. getting that specific and focused on a single type of website isn't our style. Wink
